本系於112年2月提出啟動更名為「生物醫學工程學系」，但因工學院已設有「生物醫學工程研究所」，經校內協調後本系於114年1月以「生醫工程學系」向教育部提出更名申請，惜審查結果為「緩議」。

為了重新推動本系順利更名，校方刻下正推動校內醫工單位架構重組，目前工學院「生物醫學工程研究所」已啟動調整為「生醫材料工程研究所」申請程序。在校內高度共識下，本系將重啟更名為「生物醫學工程學系」申請程序，這不僅能更精確呈現本系的專業範疇，更能對齊國內外醫工相關科系的命名趨勢，有利於本系未來的長遠發展。

「系更名說明會」將於115年4月8日(週三) 5:00-6:00PM 以實體/線上並行舉辦，說明會前將彙整全系師生同仁與系友們的寶貴意見，並於說明會當天進行意見交流和釋疑，歡迎提問及表達意見，供系上日後規劃之重要參考依據。

Our department proposed renaming itself to the “Department of Biomedical Engineering” in February 2023. However, because the College of Engineering had already established an “Institute of Biomedical Engineering”, an internal university coordination was conducted. As a result, our department submitted a name change application to the Ministry of Education in January 2025 under the adjusted name “Department of Biomedical Science and Engineering”. Unfortunately, the review result was ”Put on Hold”.

To facilitate the successful renaming of our department, the university is currently restructuring its internal biomedical engineering units. As part of this effort, the “Institute of Biomedical Engineering” under the College of Engineering has already initiated the application process to be adjusted to the “Institute of Biomaterials Engineering”. Backed by a strong university-wide consensus, our department will restart the application process to officially become the “Department of Biomedical Engineering”. This change will not only more accurately reflect our professional scope, but also align with the naming trends of biomedical engineering departments both domestically and internationally, which will greatly benefit the long-term development of our department.

BMES will hold a “Department Rename Meeting” on April 8, 2026 (Wed) from 5:00-6:00 PM by both in-person and virtually. At the meeting, we will exchange opinions and clarify doubts, and your questions and comments are welcome.
