David Leong is a tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore. He received his B Chemical Engineering and PhD in biology degrees from National University of Singapore, working on bone tissue engineering with adipose derived stem cells. He did his postdoctoral studies in Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of Pennsylvania Medical School, working on diabetes and metabolism biological mechanisms. He returned to Singapore to his first independent position as a Lee Kuan Yew Fellow in the Cancer Science Institute, National University of Singapore with a focus on cancer biology. Subsequently, he returned to his alma mater department and was promoted to his current tenured position in 2017. His research interests range from chemical synthesis to biological mechanisms of nanomaterials-biology interactions especially nanoparticles with the endothelium; working with a wide range of materials and constructs, from noble metals nanoclusters to commonly found inorganic nanoparticles to semiconductive transition metals dichalogenides to DNA. He has published more than 100 publications and has a h-index of 50.
